The Colorado Livestock Association partnered with Five Rivers Cattle Feeding, Arcadia, Colorado State University, Colorado Cattlemen’s Association, Colorado Beef Council, and a host of others on an initiative to place a distinctly Colorado Beef Stick in every weekend backpack program in the state of Colorado. The goal of the program is simple – We are here to feed kids!
In the state there are approximately 400k children who are food insecure, with many receiving their only meals at school. On the weekends, many of the students are sent home with a “backpack” full of food to get them through the weekend. Having been inspired by a successful program launched in Texas, the partners in the program decided to take on the task of creating its very own beef stick with approximately 9g of protein and placing them in as many backpack programs as possible.
